Renee's sister was the first to talk about this recipe. Renee was looking for an easy recipe that would be southern husband approved. Her sister used it as a go to recipe for her teenage kids and promised delicious bbq sandwiches.
Using a crockpot can be a life saver for busy riders. The recipe works well to set and go if you have a busy day ahead of you.
Bring along a crock pot to your next horseshow. You won't regret it!
Step 1
Dry the pork shoulder and place into your crock pot. Pour root beer over the pork.
Step 2
Combine all of the dry ingredients. Then, sprinkle lightly over the pork and pat into surface of the pork.
Step 3
Cook on low for 5 hours. Then, switch to high for about 3 hours or until fork tender.
Step 4
Remove from pot and pull apart with two forks. Add some of the liquid from the pot as needed to moisten the pork. Allow to cool and store in your fridge to take to the horse show.
Step 5
At the show, place the pork back in your crockpot to warm it. Then, add in your favorite bbq sauce (Sweet Baby Ray's!) and add to rolls, slaw, bbq beans...
NOTE: If you have a good cooler, your can bring everything to the show and prepare there!!!
